On Read A Book Day, September 6, 2020, a large asteroid will be making its closest approach to Earth around 08:38 UTC time. No impact is expected since its closest approach is estimated to be 9 million miles away but still classified as a PHA object, which stands for a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid. Why is it Potentially Hazardous? This has to do with its size and its orbital path coming so close to Earth’s orbital path (as shown in the simulation). It will be in our best interest to keep tracking this asteroid and keep monitoring it, in case it becomes a future threat to Earth. This is an estimated 270 meter sized object which converts to 885 feet. Just imagine an object larger than most skyscrapers just flying around the sun and near us.
